Calculating No. of Bricks for 4.5 Inch Walls

Calculating No. of Bricks for 4.5 Inch Walls

Assuming standard brick size of 9 x 4.5 x 3 inches, the number of bricks required for a 4.5 inch wall will be calculated as follows:

1. Determine the area of the wall in square feet (length x height).

2. Convert the area to square inches by multiplying by 14.

3. Divide the total square inches by the area of one brick (9 x 4.5 = 40.5 square inches).

4. Round up to the nearest whole number to account for waste and partial bricks.

For example, if the wall is 10 feet long and 8 feet high:

1. Area = 10 x 8 = 80 square feet

2. Area in square inches = 80 x 144 = 11,520 square inches

3. Number of bricks = 11,520 / 40.5 = 284.44

4. Round up to 285 bricks

Therefore, approximately 285 bricks are required for a 4.5 inch wall that is 10 feet long and 8 feet high.

Also including openings like doors and windows

When calculating the number of bricks required for a wall with openings (like doors & windows), the area of the openings (like doors & windows) should be subtracted from the total area of the wall before dividing by the area of one brick.

For example, if the wall has a door that is 6 by 3

1. Total area = 10 x 8 = 80 square feet

2. Area of door = 6 x 3 = 18 square feet

3. Area of wall without door = 80 - 18 = 62 square feet

4. Area in square inches = 62 x 144 = 8,928 square inches

5. Number of bricks = 8,928 / 40.5 = 220.67

6. Round up to 221 bricks

Therefore, approximately 221 bricks are required for a 4.5 inch wall that is 10’ long and 8’ high with a door having 6’ by 3’

Also windows

The same process can be used for windows. For example, if the wall has a window that is 4’ by 3’:

1. Total area = 10 x 8 = 80 square feet

2. Area of door = 6 x 3 = 18 square feet

3. Area of window = 4 x 3 = 12 square feet

4. Area of wall without door and window = 80 - 18 - 12 = 50 square feet

5. Area in square inches = 50 x 144 = 7,200 square inches

6. Number of bricks = 7,200 / 40.5 = 177.78

7. Round up to 178 bricks

Therefore, approximately 178 bricks are required for a 4.5 inch wall that is 10’ long and 8’ high with a door having 6’ by 3’ and a window of 4’ by 3’.
